Fixed prosthodontics is the art and science of restoring damaged teeth with cast metal, metal-ceramic, or all-ceramic restorations, and of replacing missing teeth with fixed prostheses.

 

Indications for FPD:

  • Short span edentulous arches.
  • Presence of sound teeth that can offer sufficient support
  • Patient’s preference.
  • Mentally compromised and physically handicapped patients who can not maintain a RPD.
  • In patients suffering from epilepsy and sudden bouts of unconsciousness. RPD is contraindicated due to fear of

 

Contraindications for RPD:

  • Very young patients due to the presence of large pulp chambers.
  • Very old patients.
  • Long span edentulous arches.
  • Periodontally compromised abutments.
  • Bilateral edentulous spaces which requires cross arch stabilization.
  • Too greater bone resorption.
